Sealed the deal on a Shiras Moose
Congratulations to Pat on a successful archery hunt for his Shiras Moose. Pat has successfully completed his Grand Slam and has achieved his North American 29! "It took us about 6 stalks to finally harvest my
archery moose but after a 45 minute calling battle with the bull I finally
sealed the deal." Pat said. What a great animal to have "sealed the deal" on! Congratulations on your many successes! We look forward to seeing you again soon. |

Southern Guides Association Update
British Columbia's Southern Guides Association is composed of members operating in the notably abundant and productive Kootenay area. This region is renowned for its high concentration and variety of big game species. Game in this region is plentiful and includes elk, mountain goat, bighorn sheep, grizzly, black bear, mule deer, whitetail deer, Shiras moose, and cougar.
The majestic elk is the most common game species in the region and the local guide outfitters take great pride in their ability to provide trophy quality hunts with high success rates. Mountain goat hunting is also very popular and some populations are found in record concentrations. Both grizzly and bighorn sheep are on tightly controlled quotas which ensure high success rates and superb trophies. There are Boone and Crockett rams taken every year by outfitters in this region. Mule and whitetail deer are hunted exclusively by many guiding operations in the area; and incidentally on elk hunts by almost everyone. Deer populations are stable and increasing and certain outfitters produce splendid trophy bucks. Safari Club International recognizes the moose in the East Kootenay as Shiras and a number of these hunts are available annually. Black bear are hunted in the spring as a primary species and in the fall on mixed-bag hunts. The Kootenay area has a two bear limit with several colour variations occurring. Many of the guide outfitters in this region are expanding their business services to include other segments of wilderness adventure tourism; with fishing trips, pack trips and cross country ski excursions available.Check out www.goabc.org for more information. |
